North Korea missiles put on parade are fakes, experts say

Several experts believe missiles that North Korea paraded this month in Pyongyang are fakes because a closer study of photographs of the weapons reveals odd inconsistencies in their design.
The missiles were shown as part of birthday celebrations for the nation's founder, Kim Il Sung, just days after a failed rocket launch that embarrassed the reclusive regime. The country has continually touted its military heft in an escalating war of words with South Korea since then.
"Superiority in military technology is no longer monopolized by imperialists, and the era of enemies using atomic bombs to threaten and blackmail us is

Jupiter's moons may hold clues for life beyond Earth

Washington: Researchers are keen on exploring Jupiter’s icy moons, which may resemble some of the planets found orbiting stars beyond our solar system, to assess their suitability for life.

Europa, Callisto and Jupiter's largest moon, Ganymede, are all believed to have liquid oceans beneath their icy shells, as well as organic chemistry and possible sources of energy beyond the dim amount of sunlight that reaches their distant surfaces.

These are all conditions that may be required for life in much more distant planetary bodies.

“We thought for quite some time these were dead icy bodies, but we have recently actually discovered a fabulous collection of very geologically

Massive Indonesia earthquake surprises scientists

The massive earthquake off Indonesia surprised scientists: Usually this type of jolt isn't this powerful. The biggest earthquakes tend to occur in subduction zones where one plate of the Earth's crust dives under another. This grind produced the 2004 magnitude-9.1 Indian Ocean disaster and the magnitude-9 Japan quake last year.
Yesterday's magnitude-8.6 occurred along a strike-slip fault line similar to California's San Andreas Fault. Scientists say it's rare for strike-slip quakes, in which

The officials said the militants attacked an army position in the town of Lawder in Abyan province, where al-Qaeda fighters are active. The town is some 250 km southeast of
