District level Congress leaders across Gujarat have been arrested ahead of a bandh called on Friday by the opposition party over DG Vanzara's controversial letter criticizing chief minister Narendra Modi. Congress also lashed out at the Gujarat government for breakdown of law and order and constitutional machinery in the state.
The Congress is demanding resignation ofNarendra Modi over the allegations made by Vanzara in his resignation letter.
The Congress alleged that the Gujarat government would resort to high handedness to foil the shut down.

Security has been beefed up in Vadodara with two companies of SRP, one platoon of women SRP, one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and 100 female Home Guards have been called in.
Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has also decided to continue the services. However, AMTS and BRTS services will be called off if the buses are attacked.
"This government, which has lost moral grounds to stay in power for even one day, has started threatening traders and other people not to join in tomorrow's bandh. We fear that this government will resort to high handedness so that people don't succeed in showing their disappointment," leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela said.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat government is pulling out all stops to ensure that the state-wide bandh called by the Congress is unsuccessful.
The entire administration along with university vice-chancellors, district education officers and police officials have been instructed to take strong action against anyone who tries to forcibly close institutions, shops, business establishments, schools and colleges. Top officials at the chief minister's office, ministers and senior officers of home and police department had several rounds of meetings for a clampdown on Friday.
Ahmedabad collector Roopwant Singh said: "We had a meeting with school and college administrations and asked them to maintain their routine. They have been told to contact the police if anyone tries to threaten them. We will take strong action against such elements.''
State Congress president Arjun Modhwadia said: "We are determined to go ahead with our programme and have requested the people to participate voluntarily in the peaceful bandh."
