One killed, 12 hurt in Guwahati blast


GUWAHATI: One CRPF jawan was killed and twelve others injured in a grenade blast at the crowded Paltan Bazar of the city on Saturday evening. The injured include three CRPF personnel and nine civilians.

The deceased was identified as Bhabani Singh (35), a CRPF jawan from Rajasthan. Hospital sources said another injured, a woman, is also critical. All injured are undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital. Police officials said suspected militants hurled a hand grenade near the Paltan Bazar police station around 7:45 pm where CRPF personnel were on duty.

Guwahati: One person was killed and 12 others were injured in a blast in Guwahati today evening, according to reports.
 
According to the Press Trust of India, the blast reportedly took place outside a railway station in the Assam capital at around 7:45 pm today. The Improvised Explosive Device was hurled targeting CRPF personnel in Guwahati's busy Paltan Bazar area near the Assam State Transport Corporation ticket counter adjacent to a police station.

Kamrup (Metro) District Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotry said a CRPF man, Bhawani Singh, was fatally injured in the blast.

The injured were taken to Gauhati Medical College Hospital, Mr Agnihotry said.
The identity of those responsible for the blast was not immediately known, he said.
He said there were intelligence reports that militants might attempt to attack security forces.

This is the second blast in as many days in Assam. 12 people including two policemen were injured in a blast triggered by suspected militants at Doomdooma in Assam's Tinsukia district on Thursday.
