Around 400 guests had a providential escape after a major fire broke out in Hotel Sitara at L.B. Nagar Ring Road on Sunday night. At least ten persons are suspected to have sustained minor injuries.
Flames erupted from the four-storeyed hotel after a hoarding put up on the front portion of the hotel's glass façade caught fire and spread to the fourth, third and second floors.
Guests attending a marriage reception and a birthday party, among others, got trapped inside the hotel building.
After a call was made to the fire control room around 8.45 p.m., fire-fighters assisted by the hotel staff rescued
guests through the internal staircase, said Fire Officer S. Suresh Reddy.
“As the fire caught one side of the building, we could evacuate them easily,” he explained.
According to Mr. Reddy, the hoarding made with flexi caught fire after some guests burst firecrackers. “Within a few minutes, flames spread to the three upper floors damaging interiors, furniture and other valuables,” Mr. Reddy said.
Fire officials said four fire tenders from Moghalpura, Hayathnagar, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad were rushed to the spot and flames were controlled within an hour.
“We will conduct a detailed probe in coordination with the police and initiate necessary action against the building owner. We will also look into the violations in the building,” said District Fire Officer Kareemuddin.
