Lucknow: The post-mortem report of the UP health centre clerk who was found dead on Thursday confirmed that he had been smothered to death. The incident took place in Lakhimpur Kheri. The body of a health department clerk Mahendra Sharma was found in a semi-decomposed state. He had been missing since February 7.
Sharma's family alleged that he was under pressure from the Chief Medical Office (CMO) to sign files
and was suspended after he refused to do so.
The CMO had earlier been questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the scam.
This seems to be the fifth death in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme scam in the state.
The Opposition in the state has hit out at the Mayawati government over the scam. Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi, "I think this is very sad, the Central government is sending funds for the health sector and these things are happening, this shows that funds are being misused."
